i just completed my first furniture renovation of the 2012!

my dear friend asked if i could refinish this dresser for her soon to be baby boy. she selected a kelly green, found these cute button knobs and left the rest in my hands. i love the finished result and from the sounds of it they do too!

happy 2012!

along with being on the mood committee for the nye event at moca i made my outfit for the event. if you remember me telling you the theme was venetian masquerade. i found a dress at an estate sale for $5...all the sequins were hand sewn, so pretty and exactly what i wanted! the only problem, it was too short. so i enlisted the help of my mom. we designed a train for the dress in a navy blue fabric. i handmade rosettes out of the same fabric to add as embellishments. and my mom made me a shawl with the fabric to bring it all together. for two women that have great ideas but are not seamstress it turned out beautiful!

i also made my mask...which was a lot of fun. i bought a mask that had a simple black fabric then i created a lace pattern on the mask by using lace and spray paint. i love this look and it was so easy. i learned this little trick from my friend kelly who did this on coasters. next, i added beads, glitter and created an asymmetrical accent out of tulle to finish the mask off.

i have a lot to share with you once i get the pictures back from the event. it turned out awesome and i'm so happy to have had the opportunity to join the mood committee and put my design skills to the test.

i seem to keep things that i think will come back in style and that i might wear again later in life. my sister came over the other day and couldn't believe all the things i've kept from when we were young. and well and i guess my eyeglasses were one of those things. i was missing one pair, my very first pair (the little pink ones) and just found them at my parents house!...my collection is complete.

the evolution of my eyeglasses....my first pair seem a lot like the red ones i wear now. i can't wait for the really round glasses to come back in style....i'm totally going to rock the ones from middle school.

hello there! i was super excited when i found out florence + the machine has come out with a new album!! i'm in love...she is insane. i had to post this video because it coincides so beautifully with the venetian masquerade new year's eve event i'm helping design.

this past weekend we had a workshop and made some awesome cardboard chandeliers for the event. i will share pictures soon.

masque noir - part 2

last week i showed you my image boards for masque noir. this week i would like to share mine and kelly's concept for our main area of focus, which are the nooks. there is an intimate little niche under both sets of stairs that look out into the space. we are creating a cozy place for people to come and mingle.

above is a floor plan which shows two different seating areas. one is using existing benches that the museum has as a base and building on top to create decorative backs for a romantic little get away . the other is an informal space where people can gather. we plan to use tree stumps as stools and high back antique chairs to create an eclectic area for conversation. below are two images that we are using for inspiration.

we are also creating fun layering of textures with fabric that will swoop from the ceiling and recycled glass jars wrapped in yarn and lace that will hold candles. i will share photos and tutorials as we being to create these pieces....stay tuned.

i got asked to be apart of the mood committee for this year's nye party at moca here in jacksonville and of course i said yes! this year's event is named masque noir with a venetian masquerade theme. with a tight budget most everything will be diy and with only two months away we have been brainstorming like crazy. below are my two image/mood boards. the other ladies also had awesome ideas and everyone is on the same creative wavelength! i can't wait to see it all come together. this past week we went further and provided sketches of the areas we are responsible for, i will share those next week.

i asked my friend/future business partner kelly to join the committee with me and these creative girls casie, meredith, amy, danielle and leah...:)

i have a tiny little living room and didn't see much opportunity to rearrange until......i was having a conversation with my friend kelly and i got this crazy idea to change it up. and oh my i just love it! so i thought i would share a few special pics from the living room.

i love the "new" feeling i get after rearranging a space. it makes me so happy to be in the "new" room. my house is my favorite place to be and i like to keep things fresh and new. do you get this feeling when changing things up at your house?

hello there….i’ve been in a bit of a funk and haven’t done much of anything creative lately. but i'm still here, now refreshed and ready to get back into the swing of things.

since we last talked i’ve been super busy with birthdays, babies and weddings...i guess it goes with the age.

i have also been taking care of a stray dog that i fell in love with. i finally found him a foster home where he will be given lots of love until someone adopts him.

jose and i had our 3 year anniversary ♥.

lastly we took a much needed vacation.
we borrowed our friends pop-up like last year and headed to north georgia and the coast of south carolina for a little relaxation!

and in the middle of all this a few opportunities came my way that i’m very excited about. one of them was being asked to be a part of the mood committee for this year’s nye party at moca of jacksonville. i think joining this creative group of ladies is exactly what will pull me out of this funk. i will share more later :)

hello!

i wanted to introduce you to the next project from my long list of things to do this summer. i almost forgot about this beauty....she has been hiding away in my garage just waiting for me to show her some love :)

she was attached to a dresser i found on the side of the road. i put her away in the garage and totally forgot about her until i came across this post. i was so inspired i came home and searched for her. i'm thinking about painting her a kelly green! once finished she will be placed above my fireplace which i'm also redoing this summer. i will keep you updated on her progress. i love repurposing furniture and find joy in doing so. would you be interested in me creating a step by step tutorial?

i recently created a fun piece of artwork out of two different pieces i already had in my bedroom. i had a branch hanging from the ceiling with glass bud vases hanging from the branch on one wall and a framed key on another.... once this wardrobe found it's way into the room the branch had to move. months later i came up with this idea below and the next day went to an antique mall and found these antique door keys to hang from the branch....and that's the story of the two lonely pieces that are now very happy they have found each other. the end.

i hope everyone is having a great week so far. tomorrow is one of my favorite days of the week, thursday. i get very excited and crazy on thursday's....i guess because the weekend is right around the corner. yes i am strange and i'm ok with that.

the vanity

i posted before & after pictures of my bathroom renovation two months ago but wanted to come back and create a post that focused on the vanity i refinished. so far this re-purposed piece of furniture has been a great fit. i spent several months searching for a piece that was the right size, height and had room for storage. as soon as i laid eyes on her i knew she would make the perfect vanity. i was drawn to the detailing of the apron and spindle legs. she has a romantic vintage feel with clean modern accessories.

memorial day

despite my feelings on war i will always have the utmost respect for past and present military soldiers, my grandfather being one of them. this memorial day meant something extra special to me. we went to visit my grandfather's grave site for the first time since he was laid to rest 7 months ago. i got to share this memorable trip with my grandmother and family.

my grandpa wesche gave'em hell and i am sure he is doing the same now ♥.

oh my garden!

last year jose and i built a raised garden and since then i've have been enjoying the tastiest veggies and herbs around. between my organic vendor at the farmers market and my garden i'm starting to become a veggie snob. i no longer like the taste of store bought fruits and vegetables.

i built this fancy trellis all by myself. this is my first time growing cucumbers...they are a little tricky. i still have a lot of learning to do and many different plants i want to try.

i've been enjoying the herb garden too. i've been making my own salad dressing from the herbs in the garden all spring and lots of herb infused water. the warmer weather always gets me inspired to get creative in the kitchen.

urban facelift - dos

jose enter another emerging design professionals competition. this one was for a project called the urban facelift. here is a summary of what the project is all about - "the purpose of the urban facelift project is to inspire property owners, business owners and the overall community by showing a building’s possibilities as seen through the eyes of the designer. the facelifts were originally presented as down and dirty four to five hours design charettes that offer a design freedom not usually possible with client interaction. the urban facelift project gives the designer unlimited freedom to push the proverbial design envelope. buildings are transformed into whatever the designer can imagine".

you might remember me posting this edp competition he won last year.

this year he did not win but i of course thought his design was the best! he has some mad skills and i can't wait for the day when we can design a home together. below is a before & after photo of his entry. if you are curious here are the other entries (there were a few different buildings they could choose from).

we (me and my co-worker kris) entered a design competition called cocktail couture. this year the theme was 1920's and we had to design a hat or purse or both. we were given a bag filled with manufacturer materials and required to use one of each. the materials ranged from carpet to wallcovering...so you have to get pretty creative in figuring out how to use each piece. we were also allowed three embellishments.

after all entries are in and votes have been tallied they throw a fabulous party to announce the winners and raffle off each design. well this year we WON people's choice.....pretty awesome right!!

hope everyone had a wonderful easter. my sunday was a fun filled day with lots of family time.

my mom made my nieces a bunny for their easter baskets. this bunny she did first and changed the pattern because my dad told her the ears looked funny. i loved him more then the one they got so, i stole him! i mean really he is too cute! i couldn't pass up those hott pink dipped ears!

p.s. he has a hot pink bunny tail too.

bathroom renovation

can i get a hell yeah for finally posting pics! it only took me forever to figure out how to take pictures of this tiny space. luckily, my friend brandi came over and saved the day. her camera give us a wider angle and her artistic eye was a huge bonus. i still think the space looks better in person but it is what it is.

before / during construction

when i moved in i left the bathroom as it was even the shower curtain was in the house when i moved in. i just didn't see the point of putting money into it until i had the opportunity to redo the entire space. well, i got my chance when i found out i had a major leak that caused me to hire a contractor to gut the bathroom. luckily i have connections in the construction world! they repaired all the damage from the leak and installed the tile. jose and i did the rest ourselves. we painted, installed the base, i refinished the vanity, plumbing plus all other finishing details. we did not kill each other but we did come close! the water also leaked into the hallway and closet behind the bath so there is still work to be done that we will attempt to do ourselves.

after

i really wanted a long rectangular mirror to expand across the entire space but could not find one i liked or could afford. so in lieu of this i used an assortment of mirrors and painted this stripe that aligns with the tile mosaic in the shower. i do believe i like this option much better!

i re-purposed this piece of furniture. it was white and in my living room. it was just the right size and functions great as a towel rack.

i used a porcelain 24x24 tile + a glass mosaic accent that aligns with the wall of the tub for the floor. on the wall i used the same porcelain cut to 12x24 and inlaid the glass mosaic as an accent to create a band around the space.

get naked baby! i couldn't resisted....tasty suite has some awesome decals!

the light is one of my favorite details in the space. i now can say i have a tord boontje piece! the flowers are delicately made out of metal. not knowing when i order this thing, i would have to assemble myself. it came shipped flat and i had to twist and connect the piece to make the shape i wanted....it took me quite a few tries.

i'm not a huge fan of the seashell look because i live in florida and they are every where. but when i found these on the beach i was drawn to them because they were not perfect. i like the deteriorating look and the colors were to pretty not to display somewhere in my house.

the cute little round rug over there in the corner was handmade by my mom! i love it!

i got a pair of old white jcpenny curtains for less than a dollar. i liked the ruffles...they remind me of something you would have found in a little girl's room in the 90's. i tea stained them....the color was exactly what i was hoping for! the tie back is from my shower curtain. the shower curtain was made from a set of drapes. to finish off the tie back i sewed a few shiny jewels on.

and the center piece of the bathroom....the vanity. here is a before picture. i had a lot of fun with this piece. it took me quite a few months to find just the right piece of furniture. it fits great in the space and has plenty of storage. it was originally a gold color and it just so was happens that color is an accent in the bathroom. so, when sanding down/distressing i allowed bits of the gold to shine through. i made sure to coat this baby several times to protect the wood top from water and wear. i went with a white porcelain vessel sink, a satin nickel faucet and white porcelain knobs to finish the piece off.

spring trippin'

this spring has been full of a variety of fun mini vacations. i would like to share with you some of my very special memories through my camera lens.

thumbs up to one of my favorite trips! we rented a house boat with our friends and their two beautiful girls. we cruised around the suwannee river and chilled out for a long weekend with no worries.

dc wasn't on my list of must see places but when our friends asked us to join them for a weekend get away we said why not. dc was a whirlwind of a trip and definitely takes more then a weekend to explore. now that i've been i can't wait to go back and see more but only if its warm :) oh and we had some of the best food ever in dc....yummy! and everyone we met was super nice. oh, and cherry blossoms were gorgeous.

right after the dc trip i headed to orlando with my friend jenny for a little girl time to celebrate her bday. we stayed at this beautiful bed & breakfast. my favorite part of the trip was relaxing on the front porch watching the sun go down with a nice glass of wine in hand. now, maybe 3 years ago i would have said going out and dancing to all hours of the night was my favorite part.....u know what this mean, I'M GETTING OLD and very much loving it!

displaying memories

although i keep my fondest memories close to my heart, i have a tendency to collect the things that help make those memories even more special. such as my very first love letter, my cross country and track ribbons, concert tickets….you name it i’m sure i still have it. i even have my strawberry shortcake doll from the 80's, my very first blankie (that has been everywhere with me, it has even been to Italy) cute little hair pins i use to wear (and still do) and even the jewelry i had as a little girl. these are the things i could never part with, they have made me who i am today.

when i first moved into my home, jose, that was "just my friend" at the time, came over to hang out. after a few cocktails i had a brilliant idea to pull out my memory box to share with him all the things i’ve collected throughout the years. i will never forget that night. he was so enamored by all this stuff i've collected. we started talking and talking and at some point that evening we came up with the idea to start a memory wall. three years later i’ve finally filled that memory wall with recent memories. it was intended to be ever changing but now that it is filled i don’t want to remove what i’ve added. maybe i will start another one on a different wall in my dining room! but before i do, i would like to share with you some of my very special memories and how i currently have them displayed.

the artwork is made up of little things that jose has made me, places i've been or anything i've done that was memorable.

aww, i love this picture that jose sketched of the very first dinner i had at my house. i invited one of my best friends ashley and jose over for dinner. jose gave this to me the next day....he remember every detail of that evening. this was before i painted the table pink!

so, to make yourself a memory wall all you need is two drawer pulls, wire and clips to attached your memories to the wire. and then you have yourself an original piece of artwork!

i haven't been posting as much or keeping up with my blogger friends like i want to because i've been having so much fun! :) spring is here and i've been working in the yard, planting a garden, going to the beach and went on a couple weekend trips. so much to do with little time to do it all! if i get a chance this week i will share with you pictures from the trips. and i'm going out of town again this weekend....just a little overnight trip for a friends bday. so, i've been busy busy but promise i will post pics of my bathroom soon! it's done and lookin' all awesome and stuff just waiting for me to take some photos. hope you have a beautiful week!

treasure hunting

today is a beautiful day! i'm in a super happy mood and it's friday!

i would like to share with you some of the awesomeness i've found during my recent treasure hunting adventures. oh the joys of treasure hunting. i have become addicted in these past few years. i have found tons of vintage linens, household items, furniture and some great fashion accessories that i have been collecting to hopefully start a little side project...maybe make a little money and save for bigger and better things that i know will come my way. i have lots of ideas and dreams, oh do i dream. but dreaming is what keeps us alive, right? i dream that one day i will break the chains of my mundane 9-5 job and be surrounded by everything i love...i can visualize that cute little place that makes me happy like it was right here in front of me. i want to wake up in the morning excited about the workday. but, i do believe that for now my rountine job as an interior design is giving me the tools i need for future endeavors and leading me on a path to greatness. or so that's what i am telling myself :)

these are a few of my favorite finds that i don't think i could ever part with. see now that is a problem, i find a lot that i can't part with! willy the brass whale is so cute sitting on my fire place, my anne ophelia dowden's 1969 print signed by her in 1970, this little lamb makes a perfect planter and my childhood favorite strawberry shortcake - tin from 1981 (i still have my strawberry shortcake doll from the 80's!). welp, i hope you think they are as cute as i do.

you know so i've been told that sometimes on the way to a dream you get lost and find a better one.

i've got to take a few minutes to give a shout out to my mom, she is awesome! she has been crocheting since forever. i remember her sipping on her tea in the evening hours crocheting away in front of the tv. as i've gotten older and have grown to appreciate her talent i now put in a nice little request and wahla, she whips something together. she surprised me with these two pieces.

my new cow-neck scarf...it's perfect and i love the color. the broach was my great grandmothers and goes quite well.

the table runner she made. she knows me well, i love me some white.

p.s. she is now making me a round rug for my bathroom. i can't wait to see it finished.

lip locking and loads of love letters = happy valentine's day!

i'm starting a new tradition this year. instead of sending out a xmas card each year i will be sending out a valentine's day card instead. below is the first of many more to come.

i whipped this banner together from stuff i had laying around the house. last year i made this one. i guess this will be a new tradition too. i enjoy making them for jose....he loves them (at least i think he does, he better or else).

the black n' white photos below are snow drawings/love notes that jose sent me when he was in snowshoe last week. thought i would add those in because they were so cute.

it is a little hard to see the all the details in the banner but the little letters on the pink yarn spell out "becky ♥ jose and ♥ hyatt".

since i’m in the middle of a bathroom renovation it only seems fitting to post some of my favorite bathroom images. some vintage, a few modern and always a touch of Oolala. i’ve never been ultra modern or overly vintage/antique, i love a good mix and heart each of these images for different reasons. mixing modern and vintage can be a challenge, one that i love and can’t imagination life without :). clean modern lines combined with soft romantic one of a kind anything is right where i want to be.

image 1 – classic architectural features always make a room. the chandelier is awesome and that yellow dress makes the picture for sure. image 2 – do i really need to tell you why this is one of my favorites? i could lick that wallcovering it looks so good and i heart the frameless antique mirrors. image 3 – digging this modern bathroom. image 4 – my fav. fun and colorful. ahhh, that clawfoot shower i would die for. image 5 – a little rustic is always fitting. image 6 – perfectly put together. liking that vanity. image 7 – can’t go wrong with a clawfoot tub plus all the fun girly prints are perfect. image 8 – mmmm, white on white! i like that mirror, very unique.

sneak peek into my bathroom renovation

i've been talking about my bathroom renovation here and there for the past month so and wanted to give you a little or maybe big sneak peek into my design. i had a major leak and had to replace the entire floor and some walls in my bathroom. i didn't mind at all because my bathroom was never finished when i moved in and i didn't really dig the finishes. so i got my chance to change things up sooner then i thought. the main construction is finished and now with the help of jose we've been painting and installing base....all the fun finishing work.

here is an image board of my thoughts thus far. i can't wait to show you before & after pics soon.

i've taking a few days off of work to focus on the bathroom renovation and just chill....heading back to work tomorrow is a little sad but i got a lot accomplished in two days! i hope you all are having a great week.

a new year

welp, it's a new year and i feel that the stars are going to align just perfectly in 2011, at least that's what i'm hoping for:) i hope everyone is enjoying their first week of 2011! mine is so so....i don't know what it is but the beginning of a new year is always so hard for me. i need a vacation already!

i wanted to share our fun photo booth pictures from new year's eve. we got all fancy (i can't take credit for that word, i stole it from my friend E) in our 1920's attire for an event at moca.....it was so much fun! we even entered the building through a side entrance instead of the front door....like we were really going to a speakeasy!

i love drinking tea that comes with quotes....a little cheesy, yes but it brightens my mornings. yogi tea has the best and i felt like these bits of inspiration were perfect for the new year.

wow, did 2010 go by fast or what. it seems like the older i get the faster time flies. i'm looking forward to 2011 and especially tonight! we are going to a new years eve party at moca (our contemporary art museum) and it's a 1920's speakeasy theme......can't wait to get all fancy!

my little hyatt turned six on sunday. this year he was a lucky dog! he got a customized birthday cake from a very cute dog boutique called bark. he was lovin life....yum yum!

we had our annual industry holiday party last night, we were ask to bring in toiletries to donate to a charity called angelwood. a few interior design firms were also asked to decorate a wreath for each of the angelwood homes. i bribed my coworkers into helping me and i think it turned out super cute. i was inspired by this wreath.

i started renovation to my bathroom today! i've had contractors in and out of my house all day. i can't wait to show you pics in a few weeks. welp, i hope you have a beautiful weekend. i will be attending holiday party no.2 tomorrow night. cheers!

this month has been so crazy i dont think ive had time to think about the holidays....i cant believe tomorrow is thanksgiving already. i need to get in that holiday mood, you know? i was visiting one of my favorite blogs today called design*sponge and came across these arrangements from studio choo. i was in love and inspired! i love the organicness (is that a word?....is now) of these flower arrangements that were made on the cheap by scavaging the backyard and/or visiting the local farmers market. these image remind me my mom, she is always bringing me something from her yard that i would never think of cutting and using as a flower arrangement. i need to put on my crafty hat and start creating holiday craftiness....maybe that will get me in the mood.

i hope everyone has a great thanksgiving. i'm going to enjoy some family time and a few days off of work.

i found this beauty in an old home downtown, she was sitting there waiting for someone to come along and give her a fresh, much needed new image:) she was in pretty bad shape and needed a lot of tlc, i was up for the challenge.

she has made herself at home in my bedroom. i have purple walls with little light in my bedroom so i wasnt able to get a good picture. i had to take the picture in a different room. the purple contrasts beautifully with the white, grey and the little surprise of peach.

i didnt repair everything on the wardrobe. i wanted a bit of her past to shine through. i left the top corner curled up and some of the existing teal that was not removed faintly shows through in a place or two. i added new door hardware and a damask grey wallcovering. the damask pattern is made with animal silhouettes....the main reason why i fell in love it. to get a better view of the wallcovering go here.

i'm in love with carolyn quartermaine's home and studio in south france. apparently i'm the last person on earth to learn about her amazing work. the articles below are from vogue living and elle decoration uk, published in 08', geezzz! i discovered carolyn quatermaine yesterday through a blog i read called sfgirlbybay.

oooolala...i couldnt agree more! i've always believed that design has to have emotion. i struggle with the type of design i do because there is no emotion, yeah, yeah, yeah....i wont go into that right now. i stay happy by pouring my time and energy into my home. ok back to carolyn.

carolyn is a textile designer, painter and stylist among many other things. she knows the perfect formula for mixing antique pieces with her textiles that are full of modern colors. i adore the combination of white with "acid bright" colors, this contract makes her patterns come to life. her home/studio is very dreamy and elegant.

these 1920's louis xv-style chairs reminds me of my dinning room chairs. ahh, got to love that knoll tulip table.

movember

november is now known as movember. movember challenges men to change their appearance and the face of men's health by growing a mustache to raise awareness and funds for cancers that affect men.

my coworker (kris) and myself enter a contest called tricked out treats. the goal was to design a mask with candy. after giving her a history lesson on how trendy mustaches and beards are (before knowing about movember), we decide to make a mustache and beard mask out of old fashioned shoestring licorice. well, the next day kris emails me an article about movember and somehow the idea seemed so perfect and meant to be that we had to do it. and with november only a few days away, it just worked. we allowed ourselves three hours before the event to create these masterpieces....pretty good for only three hours!

these masks hold very speical meaning. i think kris's husband tom was looking down on us laughing :) i mean, we do look pretty goofy!

i drooled all over the rug company book when it was brought into our office a few weeks ago. the rugs are amazingly gorgeous but, what caught my eye most was the roomsets.....oooooolala is the only word to describe these photos below. i fell in love with this quote from the book...

picture on the left (rug designed by: marni) - i see myself living here! this bright airy space has a touch of modern and a twist of fun flirty colorful accents. the artwork above the sofa, the chandelier, the painted white wood floors and oh yes of course that rug brings the entire room together.

picture on the right (rug & pillow designed by: vivienne westwood) - um um umm...i love the artwork, how creative. the artwork was most definitely created with soul. the entire roomset is just perfect.

picture on the left (rug designed by: vivienne westwood) - it oozes with romance. i love the corky heart rug mixed with the old world setting. and yes that single pendant flower print shade is just magical.

picture on the right (rug designed by: paul smith) - my favorite part of this roomset is the one oddly placed piece of artwork....ahhh, perfect. i also love the mix of the classic damask wallcovering, chair rail, large wood base boards and beautiful sofa with the modern rug.

i would love to have a job where i could design roomsets like this....oh, how nice it is to dream ;).

the big 30!

i hit a milestone on friday, I TURNED 30! i am a lucky girl and i'm very thankful for my family and friends. all of the love that i was shown on my birthday only makes me want to give more back. everyday i learn new ways to give and i hope make someone feel special. does that make sense?....it does to me so i guess that's all that matters. i had a great birthday celebration with my friends, we rented a limo and had a crazy good time. i got to see my parents, jose's parents and do a little visiting with both sets of grandparents.

i'm excited and looking forward to my 30's!

e'm getting so close to finishing the wardrobe for my bedroom. i hope to put the finishing touches on it this weekend. one of those finishing touches is applying this wallcovering....ooolala is all i have to say. when my wolf gordon sales rep/good friend brandi showed me this wallcovering i just knew it would be perfect for the wardrobe. i love the color but most of all the damask pattern is created with animal silhouettes.....i am sold!

oh how i love the change of seasons. with the first day of fall last week i've been full of excitement. i'm ready to get out of these summer rags and into something cozy with lots of warm rich color. i love this picture and outfit from anthropologie's fall catalog. ooolala.

it might take a little longer for us here in florida to feel the cool breeze of fall but soon enough it will be here. i can't wait for romantic evenings cuddled by the fire, the feel of the crisp fresh air and the smell of pumpkin bread baking in the oven...geez i'm starting to sound old and stuff! but i can't deny it, these are the little things that make me happy.

i usually can't find exactly what i'm looking for sitting on the shelf, it takes time to find the right piece. it has to be a piece that evolves and one that i create. i love spending my free time searching for the parts to create a whole.

here are three pieces of artwork i've created for my home that happen to all involve frames.

dining room.

i took different size wooden sewing hoops, added pretty fabrics and framed them. in the larger hoop i used a fabric from a vintage table cloth that i also used on these dining chairs.

living room.

this piece is my fav. i looked and looked and wouldn't settle until i found the right size piece for above the sofa. i found this fluorescent light box while rummaging through an old house. not for sure what i was going to do with it, i later bought these flowers from chiasso and added the yellow accent paint inside the frame.

bedroom.

i just finished this piece. two white frames surround a peach colored key. i'm adding this same color as an accent in a piece of furniture i've been working on for the bedroom.

if you have been looking at the same colors and need a change, sometimes adding another color to the mix spices things up without having to change much :)

and....finally a road trip

i finally went on that road trip i had been talking about for months. myself, jose and sweet lil hyatt wandered around the carolina's for a week. we borrowed a friends pop-up camper and began our trip in table rock, SC where we went hiking and enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the south carolina foothills. next we were off to fontana lake, NC, which was my favorite place. fontana lake was full of excitement and adventure, we went zip lining and roamed around the lake on a pontoon boat. lastly, we traveled east to charlotte where we spent our last few days relaxing in the great urban escape.

some believe that standing beneath a waterfall can purify the soul. i'm not for sure if it was this waterfall or the much needed trip but i came back rejuvenated and full of life. trips like this allow a person to slow down and do a little soul searching. mother nature is amazing!

i love this picture of hyatt, it shows just how much he was loving life.

and...cheers to a wonderful trip with my two loves.

we are already planning the next one.

tuesday night was mine and jose's 2 year anniversary. he took me to a quaint little bistro called 13 gypsies. we had a magical night filled with love and really yum yum food.

p.s. if you are ever in jax i would most definitely recommend eating at 13 gypsies....they were featured on diners, drive-ins and dives recently :)

my garden is doing great! i've been munching on tomatoes and peppers all summer. plant a few seeds and voila we have food....i just find that amazing!

warming up the house

i've known this girl since she was born. we were neighbors that grew up together. we have amazing childhood memories and continue to create more memories everyday. ashley recently bought her first home and asked me to help her get a few things ready before the big house warming party.

the one room in the house that she wanted finished before the party was the foyer. being a lover of the ocean she wanted to reflect that relaxing feeling through ocean imagery. we found two old cabinet doors that we hung horizontally and painted a pool blue. i took pictures at big talbot, a local state park and spray mounted the pictures to foam core. i hung the pictures from burlap and used drapery clips from ikea to attach them to the burlap.

and oh how i love the wall color.

for her house warming gift i got her this capiz pendant from west elm. she loved it and it brought the whole space together!

it's awesome how color and a little decoration can make a person feel at home and so happy to walk through the front door.

imagination squared

i was lucky enough to participate in an art experiment called Imagination Squared. two artist named christina foard & dolf james had an idea to build hundreds of wood boxes and allow artists to create whatever their heart desired. their mission - "we aim to showcase the importance of arts in education (and life) by giving a stage to the collective creative momentum happening in jacksonville". once the squares were turned in they began to create a huge grid to hang in a public location. they just announced that the squares will be placed at the museum of contemporary art (moca) here in jacksonville. click here to see all of the amazing squares.

below is my square. titled - there is no place like home.

inspiration began with my red shoes and from there it just all came together. i took photographs of the images and layered them at different heights with foam core. i had so much fun doing this and can't wait for the opening night. more pictures to come.

it seems like everyone around me is having babies! i guess it goes with the age ;) it gives me an excuse to buy cute baby stuff and help decorate. my dearest friend is having her second child. the little no named (yet) baby girl is expected to enter our world any day now. her sister went all out for her baby shower and i got to help!

kelly's favorite color is green so we did lots of limes, a few lemons and simple single stem flowers as the center pieces. crisp, clean with the right amount of color. i am pretty sure kelly loved everything!

the mojito and mamajito table was a hit and perfect for that hot summer day.

we made these tissue-paper balls and hung them over the tables in a staggered pattern to mimic chandlers.

and last but not least miss avery, so excited to be a big sister.

jose (my #1 love) entered an emerging design professionals competition. the goal was to design a sustainable shed that could be used as an office on a typical residental lot.

JOSE WON!!! and was presented his award last friday at the 2010 AIA Jacksonville Design Awards Gala. below is his winning project. i'm so proud of him :)

jose and his long time friend john just started a design firm called hota design studio . i know they will do great things.

i have a really bad case of spring fever. i would rather be outside enjoying the beautiful weather - working in the yard, taking hyatt on long walks or sunbathing instead of working. i'm pretty sure i have this feeling every year around the same time, oh oh oh what do i do....i need a very long vaka!

i guess i have to work to do all the things i enjoy, like starting a garden. jose and i designed and built these raised garden boxes. i love watching all the veggies and herb transform and grow. i can't wait to see how they turn out.

i am inspired and absolutely emotional over a film i saw tonight called art & copy. it moved me. i had to be alone tonight to think through my thoughts that this film brought on. if art & copy is coming to your city i would definitely recommend watching it. below is an apple commercial called think different (linked here just incase the video below doesn't work) that stuck in my mind after the film and it just made me feel good.

i get excited to find and create furniture and artwork for my home. i've been here for almost 2 years now and still have tons to do. my garage is packed with furniture i've found....it's just waiting for my tender love and care. i would like to share a few pictures of my living room. most everything in this room has special meaning and lots memories.

i'm a little modern, a little vintage and my house is no different. i like mixing clean modern lines with soft curves, interesting patterns and color color color.

this sofa was such a score! it came from the ladies restroom lounge in a building here in downtown jax. i believe it's from the 70's, it had this awesome bold orange and yellow flower print on it, but was moldy so i decided to get it recovered. i have another one just like it in my garage.

the artwork behind the sofa was inspired by the white frame i got from an old home downtown that was being cleaned out. i think it's an old fluorescent light box, the long rectilinear shape was what made me think it would be prefect above the sofa. i added some yellow paint and these nifty flowers from chiasso, btw urban outfitters sales these flowers now and they are like $10 more, boo!

those little monster hanging out around the sofa are my friends creation called pajama monsters. stay tuned for more info.

humm, in this little corner we have a great chair i found at a garage sale for $5. i painted the frame a glossy brown and paid to have it upholstered with a funky pink mohair. picked up this table at a local antique store and painted it white. white is so hott right now, i love the crispness. the artwork i got for a steal of deal at our monthly artwalk, painted by a local artist named shaun thurston.

well for the most part this is my living room, i hope to show you more of my home as i finish.

hello, it has been a while! i've been busy busy, i took a few weeks off of blogging to redesign my blog. still have a few little things to adjust, but for the most part i dig it. so, i'm back and ready to get crazy creative in 2010!

january

roadtrip to snowshoe. saw snow for the first time, went snowboading, made snow angels and basically froze my butt off.

february

my first valentines with my sweet love muffin.

march

study, study and study for the ncidq exam.

april

celebrated my 1 year anniversary in my lil home and took the ncidq exam.

may

first visit to the west coast. los angeles to san diego. had a blast. started my blog ♥.

june

found out i passed the ncidq! i'm offically a licensed interior designer.

july

did a little canoeing and hanging out on my front porch enjoying the weather.

august

jose and i had our 1 year anniversery.

september

paid off my car!

october

roadtrip to asheville. saw the leaves change and got cozy in a cabin.

was thankful for so much.

hyatt turned 5 and i started yoga.

this year i wrapped all of jose's gifts in paper bags and shipping material that i've been collecting. feels good to save money and recycle. i think they turned out pretty neat....what a lucky man.

i know, i know. it's snowing in some parts of the U.S. but, here in the sunshine state it's 70 degrees and my flowers are looking better then ever.

this was a trial and error....i planted a lot of plants in this small space when i first moved in and they all died. the area flooded during a heavy rain and had no where to drain. so, i came up with this solution.... i used old bricks, covered the rest with rocks and planted in three clay pots.

i used the rocks on the otherside of the sidewalk with lower plants. we will see how they do after the winter. - fingers crossed-

urban facelift

jose entered a design competition called the urban facelift project. the challenge was to give a vacant historic building in downtown jacksonville an urban facelift. the competition was created to open awareness to the public of the potential these buildings have. jose worked long and hard on the project and he won 1st place!!! i'm so proud of him....he is super talented!

my lovely dining table was one of the very first pieces i refinished right after moving into my home. i found the table at a local antique store and got to work. i'm currently working on two antique chairs for the ends of the table and an old hutch. i will post pics when i complete....i hope soon :)

.......my mom that is. she crocheted this wristlet purse with plarn yarn that she made from bread bags and anything else that crossed her path. ooooo i love it and i have to say, i'm a bit jealous because i don't have one....she made it for her good friend, she loves it too.

i just recently got cozy in a cabin during a visit to asheville and had a wonderful time. the weather was perfect and the views were beautiful.

i'm back, i know it's been a while but i have lots of stuff to share. first, i would like to share some halloween pics from this past weekend. i heart halloween because you can be crazy creative. i had a party this year and spent a whole day decorating....lucky for me i have a great friend ashley and a wonderful boyfriend that helped. i was running around with my head cut off trying to get everything finished so, i don't have many pics but everything turned out great.

halloween is my favorite holiday. every year i make my outfit and this year was know different. i decided to be a bloody butcher, of course a butcher of humans not animals. i added a touch of cute to the outfit by sewing on the pink heart pocket and the pink ribbon (hard to see with all the blood :).

scary full moon in the background....perfect night to frighten the little ones.

well hello and good morning. i turned 29 today....ooooo, i'm getting old! j/k. the last year of my twenties is here and i am ready! i feel like this year is going to be a good one with even more self discovery. i stayed up until midnight last night just to blow out a candle and make a wish.

well, i'm off to asheville to get cozy in a cabin with great friends and my bf. can't wait to share pictures from my trip with you. hope you have a great weekend!

well hello. i made a visit to my favorite vintage store to find something i could use as a planter that would fit on my window sill and spotted these.....1950's pyrex butterprint turquoise refrigerator dishes, they work beautifully!
